Te Reo, Our Taonga

Bachelor of Design with Honours

To ensure that Māori culture is upheld and thrives within modern Aotearoa, it is necessary to make Te Reo a compulsory learning requirement for primary students. Further, to successfully integrate the teaching of Te Reo into schools in Aotearoa, teachers require a resource that can be utilised with little or no prior knowledge of Te Reo to facilitate the learning and engagement of students. As language forms part of a sociocultural context, learning is more effective when knowledge and understanding about the culture and the community is learned in combination with the language, therefore Te Reo, Our Taonga incorporates language and cultural context in learning outcomes.
