This project sets out to improve the current experience of Willis Street, one of Wellington’s main urban streets. Willis Street is characterised by four key environmental conditions that tarnish the experience for its inhabitants: sun and daylight exposure; wind comfort; air pollution; noise pollution. The design intervention aims to transform what is currently a transitional space into a dwelling space. It offers an alternative approach to urban design which focuses on mitigating the negative impacts of the four environmental factors as well as integrating placemaking principles through an interventionist design strategy.
