Master of Design
Lesbian style explores the lesbian relationship with 20th century dress and style. This Master of Design thesis explores further the nexus between 1980s fashion design, subcultural groups and designers, and historical relativism. These cultural influences, in particular the designs of Vivienne Westwood and Walter Van Beirendonck, informed my own take on a contemporary ‘lesbian’ fashion collection. The collection thus features masculine tailored silhouettes and 80s inspired garments finished with punk-romantic print design, trims and hardware to celebrate lesbian fashion history, and to express how lesbian style can continue to grow and influence design today.
