Eat Like a Local: A Culture Cuisine Guide for the English-Speaking Visitor in a Non-Major City in China

"Chi" app user interface

Master of Design

Eat like a local is an interactive media tool that is designed to help the English-speaking traveller break through the language barrier and experience Chinese food like a local. Central to this Master of Design research project is the concept of culinary authenticity as found in non-major Chinese cities, such as Changsha, and which receive less attention from travellers. The interactive media tool is designed to cover the basic functions of existing food apps, such as restaurant introductions, locations, recommendations, and menus and prices. In addition, it includes features that differ from the general food app, such as food stories and dining traditions; food ingredients, with possible allergens; and diet habits.
