My painting based objects make reference to female reproductive health and holistic healing. Living with a chronic illness that is often undermined and incorrectly handled in Western medicine has led me to research alternative healing, specifically Rongoā Māori. The objects reference native plants - harakeke, mānuka, and kawakawa - all used for their anti-inflammatory properties. Through a process of abstracting drawn studies of the plants, elements are either emphasised or simplified. The juxtaposition of the harsh metal surface with the delicate flora that informed them parallels the contrast between chronic pain and the plants used to manage it.
